Imagination Inflation
Imagination inflation is an increase in confidence that a past event occurred after imagining that event.

Imagining an event can sometimes make it seem more familiar and more likely to have happened. Increased confidence does not necessarily mean someone has developed a detailed memory of it.
An example
Hypothetical example: after imagining a childhood visit to an unfamiliar aquarium, a person becomes more confident that the visit happened, despite having no new evidence.
A more precise definition
Imagination inflation refers to higher retrospective likelihood or confidence ratings following an imagination exercise. It is studied by comparing judgments before and after imagining an event, with suitable control conditions.

Where the definition stops

Garry and colleagues found increased confidence after participants imagined selected childhood events. Their study supports a particular experimental effect, not a general claim that fictional experiences become autobiographical memories.
